Here’s something for your little ones to get messy with, all you need is chocolate and a whole bunch of sweets to scatter over our Easter chocolate bark! We’ve added a little surprise sprinkle too to get those little taste buds popping!
YOU WILL NEED:
Chocolate bark
- 2 x 100g bars of white chocolate
- 2 x 100g bars of dark/milk chocolate
- Food colouring (optional)
- Easter themed sweets or whatever you prefer!
- Popping candy (optional)
Utensils
- Baking tray
- Small pan
- Small bowl that would sit on top of the pan (make sure it’s heat proof!)
- Kebab skewer/tooth pick
- Baking paper
- Spatula/knife for spreading
HOW TO:
STEP 1
Pop your pan on the hob and fill with water to a shallow depth so that when the bowl is placed on top it doesn’t touch the water (this is called a Bain Marie/Double Boiler). Turn on the heat until it starts to boil then turn down to a low heat.
STEP 2
Break up your dark/milk chocolate into small pieces and pop into the bowl, give it a stir to help melt it all evenly.
STEP 3
While the chocolate is melting, prepare the baking tray with baking paper. Once the chocolate has melted, pour onto the baking tray and spread it over the baking tray to get an even layer. Set to one side.
STEP 4
Now break up half of the white chocolate (100g) and melt in the same way as the other chocolate. Once this has melted, pop into a bowl and mix in one colour of the food colouring and then drizzle over the chocolate in the tray in whatever way you wish. Repeat with the other 100g of white chocolate for another chocolate colour and do the same. (If you didn’t want to use food colouring, skip this step and melt 200g of white chocolate and drizzle over the tray of chocolate).
STEP 5
Using the kebab skewer/tooth pick, swirl the two colours of chocolate together along with the plain chocolate.
STEP 6
Now scatter your mini eggs, marshmallows or your sweet treats of choice over all the chocolate and push them down a little in necessary.
STEP 7
We added some popping candy which you can buy from specialised stores, some supermarkets and online. Keep it a secret until it’s munch-time for added fun!
STEP 8
Pop your tray of treats into the fridge/freezer until it is hard. This makes the chocolate more brittle and better for breaking up into shards. Once it has hardened up, take it out and snap it up, this is the fun bit (besides the eating of course!) and there you have it! A super easy, fun recipe for the whole family to get stuck into, you can be as neat or messy as you like!
HAPPY EASTER!
